Strade Bianche, meaning "White Roads," is cycling's newest major classic, first held in 2007. The race derives its name and character from the historic white gravel roads (strade sterrate) that wind through the Crete Senesi region of Tuscany. These ancient roads, made of white clay and limestone, create one of cycling's most visually striking and physically demanding challenges, combining the beauty of the Tuscan landscape with the raw challenge of racing on unpaved surfaces.
